The City of Greeley History Museums Exhibits and Collections teams recently had the pleasure of relocated several map cases and a large shelving unit. The inspiration for all this moving was a donation of map cases from the USDA Weld County Farm Service Agency facilitated by Jeff Wilson, Director. The four map cases contain approximately 1, 050 aerial images (maps) of Weld County taken in 1973, 1977, and 1998 with an index by township, range, and section making it easy to locate areas for research.
Brute SquadIt was a tough operation because overhead sprinklers, pipes, air ducts and lights were within an inch of the heavy shelves. As our beloved Wicked Witch of the West would say, These things must be done delicately&or you hurt the spell!& or perhaps you could set off alarms, puncture water pipes around artifacts, and the Archives Police arrive with stun guns and make you fill in forms!
We got our upright heavy-duty dolly, some wheeled dollies and our brawny staff to make light of this heavy situation.
The Greeley History Museums recie18ved a previous donation 2010, when the USDA Weld County Farm Service Agency donated three map cases containing a set of aerial photographic maps (an estimated 900 maps) from 1966-1969, and some from 1977, also via Jeff Wilson, Director. These maps show the changes in the use of land historically.
