I am Kristine Nigl, a non-traditional student at the University of Northern Colorado, working on my bachelors degree in Graphic Design. My current goal is to find a career in Environmental Graphic Design upon graduation. I like the idea of working not only on two dimensional projects but also working on sculptural and interactive design elements. When I am not working on class projects I am a ceramic artist, particularly interested in ceramic sculpture. I hope to learn a great deal about how graphic design is applied in the museum setting, and hope to expand on my current design skills.
I spent the first day of my internship touring the Greeley History Museum, completing my SMATA training (instructions on how to handle artifacts with the museum team), and being introduced to my first project: creating exhibit panels about the Spanish Colony a Greeley neighborhood created by the Great Western Sugar Factory and local workers. My first assignment is to design exhibit panels from the research, documentation and images in the museums collections that tell their story, to be exhibited at Centennial Village Museum by the end of summer.
