I have now been interning at the Greeley Museum for almost two months. The majority of my work has focused on designing a five panel series that will explore the history of the Spanish Colony, a unique Greeley neighborhood initiated in 1924 to maintain a community and a year-round resident workforce for the local sugar industry. We were fortunate to be able to tour the neighborhood with several guides and talk to longtime residents and plan to have some of them assist us with the final drafts. Our exhibit is to be installed in the Spanish Colony House at Centennial Village. I have the overall layout done and am currently working on detailed revisions.
In the past month I have toured most of the buildings at Centennial Village, Meeker Home and the Greeley History Museum and learned a lot of fascinating history of the region. While doing my job I was taught a lot I didnt know before about the history of printing and fonts at the village print shop. And just last week while at Centennial Village I helped wrangle a small pony who was naughty and cleverly freed herself. Who could have guessed that my equestrian background would come in handy at a history museum! Nancy Lynch, our exhibits curator and my boss, has included me in team brainstorming sessions about future exhibits. I really love interning here. Time just flies by and I can hardly wait to come back to work; each day at Greeley Museums is a great adventure.
