FOR RELEASE: Starting May 1, the Meeker Home Museum, 1324 9th Ave., will be providing guided tours exclusively by appointment. In 2015 the museum was open on Saturday afternoons during the summer; with the new schedule visitors can enjoy the historic home throughout the year.

“We are striving to be more visitor-friendly,” says Museums Manager Dan Perry. “This way we are working with our visitors’ busy schedules instead of asking patrons to arrive within a very narrow timeframe.”

Now visitors can experience an in depth guided tour year-round and learn the fascinating story of the Meeker family. The home has furnishings original to the Meeker family and the late 1800s in Weld County.

The museum is holding an event on July 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in honor of Nathan Meeker’s birthday. There will be refreshments, games, and house tours. Appointments will not be necessary to attend this free event.

The Meeker Home, built in 1870, is a unique adobe two-story austere home, originally built to house the City of Greeley’s founding family; Nathan Cook Meeker, his wife Arvilla and their three daughters Mary, Rozene and Josephine. The first floor of the home is handicap-accessible and the second floor is accessible by stairs. A short video of the upstairs area is available. The Meeker Home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and children ages three to 17. A family of five can tour the home together for $15. Groups of 10 or more can schedule a tour at a special rate.
