The Colorado Centennial and the U.S. Bicentennial encouraged the establishment of a living history museum to interpret the agricultural, architectural, and cultural heritage of the late 1800s to early 1900s high plains region. Step back in time and learn about the early pioneers of Northern Colorado and hear about an area where grand houses, growing businesses, extensive prairies and agriculture were all a part of daily life. Centennial Village’s 8-acres feature over 35 architecturally unique structures, heritage farm animals, beautifully landscaped grounds and interactive experiences. Centennial Village is an “open-air museum” and visits occur in both rain or shine so please prepare accordingly. (Allow 2 hours.)

Learn about some of Greeley’s original Union Colonists and find out how they survived during the settling of the high plains region. See images and artifacts relating to some of Northern Colorado’s most famous residents such as “Rattlesnake” Kate Slaughterback and Nathan Cook Meeker. The museum features one-of-a-kind artifacts such as Kate’s original rattlesnake skin dress and Meeker family heirlooms. The museum’s most popular exhibit, “Utopia: Adaptation on the Plains” features the story of irrigation in the region, popular local crops at the turn of the century. (Allow 1 hour.)
