FOR RELEASE: The public is invited to attend “The 1888 Lynching of W.D. French,” a First Friday Presentation held Friday, Oct. 2, at 6 p.m. in the Greeley History Museum Community Room, 714 8th St.
Chief Criminal Investigator for Weld County District Attorney’s Office Keith Olson presents details surrounding the murder of Harry Woodbury and the subsequent lynching of French, Woodbury’s former friend and business partner.
Olson worked with the Greeley Police Department for 28 years prior to joining the Weld County District Attorney’s Office in 2009 as its Chief Criminal Investigator. Olson’s vast experience as a criminal investigator and genealogist—and his interest in Greeley’s only lynching—spurred him to delve deeper into this case, bringing light to new details.
According to Olson, “I will explain how Buffalo Will, W.D. Farr, General George Armstrong Custer, Abraham Lincoln, and U.S. Congressman Ken Buck are a part of this enduring and infamous tale of mob justice in the Wild West.”
Those attending will have a chance to ask Olson about his research and the book he is writing about the lynching. Admission is free.
